Day 39 - 'The Debi Sue'

Had to run an errand on the way to work this morning and it took me by the city dock - and there sat "The Debi Sue" - paddlewheeler. I believe this is a boat that someone lives on. The sign said "built in 1929, rebuilt in 2007". I loved the stacks (or whatever they're called) on the top.

How Cool - bet it's scary during storms, thought. I wonder if they live there year 'round?

Wow I don't think I've ever seen a 3 tier paddlewheeler -it looks uncomfortably top heavy.

Does look kinda top heavy. We do have a good number of year round boat residents here - but I think their boats stay in marinas most of the time. I'm guessing this one is from out of town.

What fun! So you think it's someone's houseboat, as opposed to some kind of charter boat? We have a local dock with an old-fashioned paddle boat, but it's like a party boat.

Interesting! So what do they do with this boat? Take people out on it for rides?

I just come across this story by accident tonight. We were talking about my wedding that was just a week ago aboard this paddlewheel boat.My great-grandfather and great-uncle brought this boat down from West Virginia about 7 years ago. It has had a-lot of work done since then. The boat was sold to a man out of Houston and he and his family vacation on it every once and a while.I was very lucky he let me use this boat for my wedding, it was the most amazing event you could imagine. So there is a little information about "The Debi-Sue"By the way he never rents it out or charters parties. It is for private use only.

Bibi - is there any way you could give me the guy's contact information? I am getting married in Guntersville and since the Glover is now closed, I'm looking for a place for our rehearsal dinner... I would LOVE to do it on this boat!! if you were able to convince him to let you rent it, maybe I can... thank you!

Hi, we bought the "Debi Sue " five years ago and have enjoyed the hospitality of Guntersville every year since then. It is a vacation home for us but we miss the area each time we leave. I can't wait to wake on Saturday morning and run over to the farmers market, where the fruits and vegetables are so fresh and the farmers are so informative. Our hearts go out to those of you effected by the recent storm. It was great to see how you have pulled together to repair the community.thanks for welcoming us.
