Day 166 - first irises blooming this year

WOW - it's been a long time since I've posted here. Life kinda got away from me, but I'm going to try and at least finish the 365 days. Of course, they won't be consecutive :)

We had lovely weather last week and my first irises are blooming in my back yard. These are the "old fashioned irises" that came from my Grandmother's yard.

Weather has turned cold and rainy (but thank God there's nothing white falling out of the sky) and we WILL be warm again.

Day 72 - River Bridge

This is the view across the street from the Chamber of Commerce - looking out across the river bridge (Tennessee River). I have no idea what kind of flowers these are growing along the bank and the tree - but they sure were pretty.

Day 60 - Back of sign

Thought this was interesting - it's a church sign that I drove by. Didn't actually see the front of the sign but happened to look back and saw the flower behind the sign.

Day 11 - Hydrangea

I have this hydrangea in my back yard - and while I'm not much of a gardener - it's special to me because it was my grandmother's. When we retired and moved back here most of her flowers were gone (stolen mostly) but there was the hydrangea in a really grown up area. Probably still there because it couldn't be seen from the road.

Chuck dug up part of it and we planted it in our back yard and it's been a happy camper - except for last year when it was so incredibly dry. Didn't have nearly as many blooms this year as in the past so I just took a photo of one of the blooms. It does better with water - and I'm not good about watering things.

I'm sure this plant is at least as old as I am - and possibly older. The color has always been this gorgeous blue - but I understand you can change the color of hydrangeas by changing the ph of the soil - way over my head!

Day 6 - downtown

Guntersville has a 'main street' - and that used to be it's name. But they made it one way some years ago and changed the name to Gunter. I guess "Main Street" wasn't classy enough.

These lovely planters adorn the sidewalk all through the downtown area.

Day 4 - Crape Myrtles

I've taken a page out of Bettye's blog and took a really close up of the crape myrtle. I just love these, the blossoms are so frilly and lacelike around the edges. They're all blooming around here now, but this is my favorite color. These photos were taken at my bank.
